Handmade Banana Fiber Maasai Shuka Nativity Scene
This self-contained nativity is handmade in Kenya. The box is made using Maasai shuka fabric and banana fiber. The shuka fabric is traditionaly worn by the Maasai and is plaid mostly red with other colors. Banana fibers are extracated from the stalks of banana trees which would otherwise be waste after harvest. The fiber is very durable and can be processed in many ways to become functional for making handicrafts, paper, and even silks. This nativity scene contain 11 figurines: Joseph, Mary, Baby Jesus, 3 wise Men, 3 shephards and 2 animals. Joseph, Mary, the wise Men and the shephards are all mounted on wood rounds. When the set is not in use, all the pieces fit nicely in the box which closes with a stick and loop. This African handmade nativity scene would be an absolutely beautiful and unique addition to your Christmas decor!
