Asante sana na karibu tena — thank you for stopping by, and welcome back anytime.
Jambo rafiki (Swahili for Hello, Friend)! We’re grateful you’re here to learn more about The Maasai Market, a family-run business rooted in culture, community, and craftsmanship. We specialize in handcrafted imports from East Africa—primarily Kenya—celebrating the artistry, tradition, and talent of local makers.
Our journey began in 2002, when we first started selling on eBay and built a strong reputation for authenticity and customer care. Over the years, our mission has remained the same: to offer genuine, artisan-made pieces while creating fair, meaningful opportunities for the artists who craft them.
I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya before moving to the United States in 1998. With loved ones back home searching for ways to support themselves, I began helping family and friends sell the items they created. That small beginning grew into The Maasai Market. Although many of my relatives have since joined us here in the U.S., we continue to work directly with talented artisans in Kenya who rely on our partnership. We purchase items without middlemen, ensuring artists receive fair pay—usually their full asking price—for their skill and hard work.
Today, our family runs The Maasai Market from our home in Salt Lake City, Utah. My wife, who grew up in Oregon, and our children take part in every step of the business, finding joy in learning about and sharing our Kenyan heritage.
We are deeply passionate about our products and the people behind them. Our goal is to give you a meaningful shopping experience, exceptional customer service, and pieces you’ll love for years to come. If you ever have questions or concerns, please reach out—we’re always happy to help.
Thank you for supporting our family, our culture, and the incredible artists whose work we are honored to share with you.
