This striking African mask originates from the Bamana tribe of Mali and represents the ntomo society, which prepares boys for adulthood and guides them until their circumcision. Worn during initiation rituals, this mask is believed to absorb *wanzo*, an inner blindness associated with self-knowledge and impurities, allowing individuals to emerge as free and fertile adults. Featuring an oval face adorned with seven elongated horns resembling a comb, the mask is embellished with cowrie shells—some of which have aged over time. Its small mouth emphasizes the virtue of silence and the importance of controlling one's speech.
